ESLI Executive Director Meets with Serbian Government Representatives

On Wednesday 25th March 2015, Executive Director of ESLI – Ms. Halyna Senyk – traveled to Belgrade to meet with representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia to discuss issues relating to the restitution and compensation of immovable and movable property unlawfully expropriated under Nazism during the Second World War.

Whilst in Serbia, Ms. Senyk met with Ambassador Mira Nikolic – Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs in charge of Multilateral Relations; Mr. Strahinja Sekulic – Director of the National Agency for Restitution; Ms. Gordana Stamenic – special representative for the Ministry of Justice; Mr. Jovan Ivanovic – special advisor to the Minister of Finance; and Mr. Srdjan Kokotovic – State Secretary, Ministry of Finance.

Ms. Senyk also had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Dimitrije Stankovic and Mr. Freek Janmaat – Economic Officer and Head of the European Integration and Economic Section, respectively – from the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia.

Ms. Senyk’s discussions with Serbian governmental representatives were extremely positive and resulted in renewed calls for greater progress and closer cooperation in the field of holocaust restitution.
